Trail Cleanup Leader

About the Role

Trail Cleanup Leaders support organized cleanup efforts by guiding volunteers, providing basic instructions, and helping ensure a safe and effective cleanup experience. We currently lead monthly trail cleanup events that last about 1-1.5 hours.

Key Responsibilities

  • Welcome and check in participants using a mobile app or paper sign-in
  • Guide and support new volunteers on cleanup procedures and safety guidelines by reviewing safety and task overview before the cleanup begins
  • Communicate cleanup expectations, duration, and assigned areas
  • Ensure participant safety throughout the cleanup activity
  • Answer questions and provide guidance during the event
  • Help coordinate volunteers during the cleanup as needed
  • Take photos of the activity for organizational and social media use
  • Submit a short summary of the cleanup event to a designated contact after each event.

What We Offer

Trail Cleanup Leaders are leaders in the community.  You will enjoy:

  • Developing Leadership Skills — Use your outdoor voice and other charms to influence a group of strangers to collaborate!
  • Networking Opportunities — Connection with like-minded community members, conservation advocates, and local leaders who share your values
  • Inspiring a Love of Nature - You will encourage the community to become vested in the outcome of West Coyote Hills through service
  • Recognition — Acknowledgment of your contributions in our communications, events, and organizational materials

What We're Looking For

We welcome community members who:

  • Care deeply about land conservation and the mission of Friends of Coyote Hills
  • Are reliable, collaborative, and enjoy teamwork
  • Can commit to the minimum expectations outlined above
  • Bring any relevant skills or community connections they are willing to share

This is a non-compensated volunteer role offering a meaningful opportunity to make a direct impact to engage the community as responsible stewards of the West Coyote Hills habitat and recreational trails.
