Nature Walk Docent

Nature Walk Volunteers support engaging, educational walking programs by helping plan content, guide participants, and ensure a safe and welcoming experience for all attendees.

• Research, develop, and prepare topics or talking points for guided nature walks
• Welcome and check in participants using a mobile app or paper sign-in
• Communicate walk details, including duration and expectations, to participants
• Lead or assist with guided walks using a prepared story or narrative
• Monitor participant safety throughout the walk and respond to any concerns
• Answer questions and provide general information during the walk
• Take group photos for organizational and social media use

Nature Walk Docents are experiential storytellers and ambassadors to the outdoors in the community.  You will enjoy:

• Docent Training — We will provided basic naturalist talk script if you prefer to use our ready-to-use walk-talk
• Developing Leadership Skills — Use your storytelling skills to open the eyes and minds of casual observers to the quiet wonders of the outdoors!
• Networking Opportunities — Connection with like-minded community members, conservation advocates, and local leaders who share your values
• Inspiring a Love of Nature - You will encourage the community to become vested in the outcome of West Coyote Hills through a unique outdoor experience
• Recognition — Acknowledgment of your contributions in our communications, events, and organizational materials

• Enjoy the outdoors and telling stories about the land, heritage, and flora and fauna of West Coyote Hills

• Can commit to the minimum expectations outlined above
• Bring any relevant skills or community connections they are willing to share

This is a non-compensated volunteer role offering a meaningful opportunity to make a direct impact to engage the community as responsible stewards of the West Coyote Hills habitat and recreational trails.
